It’s time to consider making some changes in our lives and this is the time to do it. For those that believe the economy is going to get better and soon, think again.
Right now, many can and will still lose their jobs. The reason is that many retail stores are closing down. If this continues, many may go out of business. It’s already happened in 2009 and now in 2010.
For those of us that have a job, we need to make sure we keep it at any cost. A way to keep our jobs is to finish or continue our education.
This allows us to compete with those that are recently out of college which are willing to work for less than we do in order to get a job and some type of a benefit package. Of course, many of us have excuses as to why we can’t go back to school or continue our education. If we take a step back, we will see that our excuses have no basis. Many schools offer on-line courses so you don’t have to go to the actual class room. This helps a lot since we can’t take the time to actually go to class due to our hectic schedule. This also helps with the excuse that we can’t find a sitter for our kids. Again, no longer a problem because we can stay home and do our course online.
Since we are taking our course online, we can do our work anytime during the day or night. For instance, if we have children, we can do our homework when they are doing theirs, wait until they are watching television or they have fallen asleep. While at work, many of us don’t go out to lunch, we stay at our desk or go to the break room. This time can be used to catch up on the reading or homework. As this shows us, there really isn’t an excuse for us to avoid going back to school. This can be done, ask your friends, many are already doing this and some are close to finishing their education and soon will have their degrees.
Another excuse is that we don’t have the money to pay for school, it’s too expensive. Right now is the time to try for school loans and there are some with very low interest rates. We need money for tuition and books, we don’t have to worry as much as college kids that need money for tuition, books, room and board. Besides, many companies are willing to pay for your education and reimburse you according to your grades. All you need is one loan to start and after that use the reimbursement you receive from your job to continue taking courses.
Some may be asking why they should do this. Is it really beneficial to them? The answer is yes. If you have taken the time to read the want ads, the few that there are, they are asking for experience and at least an associate degree. So right now, if you were to lose your job and don’t have a degree, you may find it very difficult to find a job, even if you have all the experience necessary.
An education equals more money for you. Once you have your degree you can renegotiate your salary. Many may think it’s not possible they will hire someone new. Not true, they would do that if the person that was trying to negotiate had nothing to back them up but just experience. The degree is your way to keep your and opens the doors for promotions. Many companies are looking for people with degrees to bring into company. The reason, they are fresh out of school with the most recent information to help them grow.
So if you want to make a lot more money in a time when many can’t even get a job, go back to school. It may have been a while and it is hard to get back into it again but use money as a motivation. Having your bachelors or a masters will mean that you are even more valuable to them, especially if your company helped pay for your education. Don’t wait another second, better yourself, get your degree and watch the dollar amount increase on your paycheck.
