There are many foods out there that we know are dangerous and consuming too much of it can be risky, even deadly.
When we think of these foods, we think of some exotic foods or even bugs. This is true but there are other foods that are considered just as dangerous and we eat them daily.
These are foods we would never think could cause us any harm. Now all hope is not lost, we can still consume these foods but with caution.
We have to make sure they are cooked and/or processed the correct way in order to avoid food poisoning. It all depends on how we cook, clean and process our foods. As everything else in our lives, we just have to learn to adjust and still enjoy what we like.
Burgers
Many enjoy a rare burger but eating raw beef is very risky. It is known for being contaminated with E. coli and salmonella. Even after it is cooked there is still some risk but less than when you eat it raw. If it’s a rare burger you want then make sure it is at least 160 degrees when cooked. Insert a thermometer in the center of the burger, if it has reached that temperature then its safe to serve. Of course, if it’s well done, then it’s even better for you.
Sushi
There are many that enjoy sushi but are not aware or don’t pay attention to the presence of parasites in raw fish. Just thinking about it is not a good feeling. Ways to eat it safely is to eat sashimi, which the chefs know the best fish and can remove the parasites. The very best way is to eat raw fish after it has been frozen for more than 15 hours. This will kill all the parasites and you can still enjoy sushi.
Chicken
Pretty much everyone eats chicken, it‘s the most popular. The problem with chicken is that it is known to be a carrier of campylobacter and salmonella bacteria. When you are preparing the chicken, make sure that once you cut it up, clean off the knives, plates, counters, boards, hands, etc. To prevent anyone from getting sick, make sure to cook it thoroughly, no pink should be showing.
Salad Bars
These are popular, especially for those that are on a diet and in a rush. The problem with salad bars is that they are not always kept cool enough; many of the ingredients were purchased chopped and not washed. Then you have to take into account the hygiene of the person handling the food. There are many risk however not all of them are bad. When in the restaurant, make sure there is a sneeze guard, they are constantly adding food, and it’s at the proper temperature and at the right temperature.
Eggs
It’s rare to find an egg with salmonella but there are, less than 10,000 eggs carry it. To prevent any possibilities of getting sick cooked them thoroughly, avoid under cook or runny eggs. To be safer, and enjoy soft boiled eggs, purchase pasteurized eggs. This process eliminates any bacteria the egg may have.
