Indoor Recreational Activities

Outdoor recreational activities are always fun, it helps us get some exercise in our daily life. We can go bicycling, walking, running, hiking, etc.

But sometimes recreational activities have to be spiced up to get others to partake. We all want to have some fun and do recreational activities with more than just one person.

One reason we might want to do fun activities is to get our youth interested. When you try to get them involved, if it looks boring, they won’t even bother.

They see it this way, what is the point of that activity, what is the big deal? For them and for us also, at times, things just have to have some meaning. With all in life, fun is important. Sometimes more than anything else, even health. Most of our kids spend their time indoors and to be honest, so do adults.

We all sit in front of the television and basically become vegetables. Each day it’s harder and harder to do anything but sit there like a couch potato. If you go from house to house, you will find that everyone has some type of game console. That triggers excitement because we get lost in the games. When we actually take the time to notice the time, longs hours have passed.

The only parts of our bodies that have done any real exercise are our hands and fingers. There may be a time or two that we sort of jerk but that’s it. All hope is not lost. There are things we can all do, have fun and actually get some exercise.

LAZER TAG

This game gets the adrenaline pumping. Basically, the game consists of dark labyrinth themes where you are armed with body packs and laser rifles. You go through these mazes finding your opponent. You have to get them out before they get you. Total run time can be about 30 minutes or so but when you are done, you are exhausted and feel as though you have been at this for hours. Most people will do more than one session but they do rest before the next session. It is actually fun, good for all ages and this will definitely be considered as exercise.

PAINTBALL

This activity requires teams. This is a good team building exercise and don’t think for one minute that only men enjoy this activity, so do women. Centers do provide full protective gear and air guns with small rounds of paintball. Even with the gear, don’t be surprised if you get a bruise or two. This is not a game for children. Paintball is actually more popular than Laser Tag. It is usually played in either wooded areas or abandoned warehouses. Now you have to be ready because it is either a half a day or full day event.

BOWLING

Everyone has gone bowling one time or another. This is definitely a family event or a group event. It doesn’t matter if you are a pro; it’s all about having fun and moving around. You can spend an hour or two bowling. It can be even more challenging if you visit those that are played under ultraviolet light.

ROCK CLIMBING

You don’t have to go outside to go rock climbing. You also don’t have to worry about getting hurt. There are centers that offer this activity indoors. It is good for all ages and safe. You can either do this as an exercise or for practice, if you are planning to do the real thing. Best thing of all it is supervised and still challenging.

WII

You would think a game console can’t be considered as an activity. Not true, you can consider the WII console a great way to get everyone to partake in some kind of activity. This console has interactive games that get you off the couch. They have WII fit for all; they also have the WII Sports game which you can play tennis, boxing, bowling, golf, etc. As odd as this may sound these games get you moving and sweating. This is a nice investment for all.

DANCING

You will definitely have a hard time getting a boy to get dancing lessons but why should that stop everyone else. Dancing is actually a good way to burn calories, get back in shape and best of all learn new moves. For couples, it is a fun event; spend an evening or two learning new moves. Usually the lessons are about an hour. The girls enjoy dancing, so get them into dance school, ballet, tap, ballroom, etc. The whole point is to get them to do fun activities to keep them active and healthy.

There are many more indoor recreational activities that can be done. Even aerobics is a good recreational activity. What you have to do is move, get some exercise and use your time wisely. Many of us don’t enjoy going outdoors too often, either it’s due to the cold or it’s extremely hot, whichever the reason may be, we all do it at one point.

Due to our desire of doing nothing but sitting on a couch and watching time go by, we are getting bigger and bigger. Obesity is plaguing us all. It is time we took control of our health and bodies. If boredom is the problem then try one of these activities or others that can be done indoors. Families need to get motivated and do this as a team effort. For those groups of friends that enjoy hanging out, try it, support each other. You will all have so much fun doing these recreational activities that you won’t realize it is truly exercise.
