It’s time for the kids to go back to school. This means it’s time to go shopping for them. First, it’s time to go shopping for school clothes and it can be a bit pricey. The kids want to go to school wearing the latest fashions and can’t understand why the parents won’t get them what they want. To avoid all those long faces or arguments with the kids, check the store circulars.
Right now, every clothing store is offering great specials on clothes and shoes. You can get some of the latest fashions for the kids at a lower price, pleasing them and easing your headaches.
However, it is a good idea to sit down with them and let them know there may be a chance they can’t get everything they want. Sit down with them and make a list of the clothes they want. Go over the circulars and if you find the items, buy it for them. For those items you can’t get, find something that is affordable and both agree on. Plus they have to realize you still need to go shopping for school supplies and even that is getting a bit expensive.
The school supplies depend on the grade they are in. For instance, the kids in elementary school need the following:
- Pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens and paper
- Crayons
- Paint and paint brushes
- Folders and markers
This is just a small list of what they will need for school supplies. For those in middle school and high school, they need the essentials; they won’t need as many supplies at first. As the school year begins, they will have projects they will need to complete and they will need special supplies. So it’s a good idea to save some money for more school supplies throughout the year. Another good idea is to purchase as much as you can. Most likely they will run out of some of their supplies during year and you can always replace them. Plus, if you have extra you can save them for next year.
One item they all need is a backpack. Those are not the easiest to buy, just as clothing; they want the latest styles or designs. But when you are purchasing these for them, make sure they fall within the school requirements. Some schools are very strict as to what they can use for a backpack. Make sure to find out before you spend money on an item they can’t use and you have to go back to the store.
As soon as they are back in school, parents will have to change their schedule. For their younger children, they may have to make arrangements for after school care until they are able to pick them up. Then of course, the kids will participate in after school activities, such as sports or clubs. There are school plays to attend, special events and open house. Most important of all, you have to make sure they do their homework before they go to bed.
Throughout the school year there are lots of expenses for the parents. For the kids going to elementary school, prepare their lunches. As they grow older, they won’t want to take a lunch to school, it just isn’t cool. Money will have to be set aside for daily lunches. Then there are other expenses that are expected. If they are in senior high school, there is the Homecoming dance, Junior Prom, Senior Prom and graduation. But its okay, parents don’t mind, they knew this day would come and hopefully planned for it.
Of course, the biggest expense is college tuition, books and dormitory. That is where it really gets tough but as parents, you do it with a smile. You only want the best for your kids and do everything possible for them to have a bright future. So parents, get ready. They say you should start getting your kids used to going to sleep at a certain hour and that is a good idea. But you know what, parents, start going to bed early, you have a long year ahead of you.
