Witch Hazel is a plant that is grown naturally in Florida, Texas and certain parts in Canada. It was used for medicinal purposes by the Native American Indians.
It’s generally used for sores, swelling and bruises. Then they had to steam the twigs to be able to get the extract of witch hazel.
Luckily, today you can go into any pharmacy or store and find this product ready to use. The best part of it is that there are new ways to use this remedy. You will be surprised; especially since it can replace some of the products you use today and save you money. Remember, it is only for external use and make sure that the alcohol content is zero or very low.
Baggy Eyes
It’s hard to get rid of the bags under the eyes. You pretty much try anything, including expensive products. Well, best way is to use witch hazel, apply with cotton balls. It will tighten up the skin and reduced the bagginess.
Varicose Veins
This is a good remedy for those that suffer from varicose veins. To relieve some of the discomfort and swelling, soak wash cloths in witch hazel and lay them on the legs as they are propped straight out. This will relieve the discomfort because the witch hazel will tighten the veins.
Dry Skin
Right after you shower you should apply lotion onto your skin without towel drying. One of the problems with that is it takes forever for the skin to absorb that lotion. Instead, use witch hazel, apply it the same way you would apply lotion. It will lock in the moisture without the mess.
Pimples
Since witch hazel reduces inflammation it can be used to get rid of pimples. Just dab it on with a cotton ball and watch it disappear. There are some people that actually use it daily to help with acne.
Poison Ivy
If you are going camping, make sure to pack this. Poison Ivy or Poison Oak can cause a lot of itching. To reduce the swelling and itching, apply witch hazel. Always keep this hand, especially if you have children.
Diaper Rash
Sometimes it’s hard to get rid of diaper rash and the babies can get very irritated since it is so uncomfortable for them. If you notice that it’s not going away quick enough, apply witch hazel solution with a cotton ball. You should see quick results and your baby will feel better.
