No matter where you live, there is a State Park in your area. When you are looking for outdoor recreational activities, this is one of the best places to go to.
They have a lot to offer, whether it’s a trip for the family, friends or groups. A good thing about the state parks is that no matter what time of the year it is, you can still visit them.
When planning a trip to the parks, always contact them first. You will want to find out their hours of operation. Depending on the seasons, they may close earlier.
They also charge a fee; it can be per vehicle, per person, etc. You will also want to know what their rules and regulations are, make sure you are prepared for every thing. For those looking for more than just one day at the park, good news, some do have campgrounds and even cottages that for rent, whether it's one night, two or three. They don’t have many of them so you have to make your reservations early, especially if it's around the holidays.
There are a variety of recreational activities you can plan at the State Parks, givimg you the chance to enjoy nature. Some of them may have some type of zoo which you can visit. Whatever you are looking for, the parks will have it for you. Everyone will be able to enjoy some type of activity.
SWIMMING
During the summer time, you can enjoy the lakes. Go swimming or just lie down on a water float and just relax. If you live in Florida, you can actually go swimming all year long.
CANOEING
They may offer canoeing, whether it’s on your own or a guided tour. This is a great to try it for the first time.
HORSEBACK RIDING
Many have trails to go horseback riding. Some do have horses on the premises for you to ride. Others have the trails, permitting you to bring your horse on this excursion.
HIKING/NATURE TRAILS
All of the state parks have nature trails. They can be up to 14 miles long. You can go walking, bicycling or running. This trail gives you the opportunity to a some exercise while enjoying nature.
MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
Some State Parks do have mountains that you can go climbing. Make sure to have a backpack, water, and let someone know you are going climbing if you are doing it alone. Always get a map and carry a compass (these days your phone can be used as a GPS).
CAMPING
They allow camping. Find out what type of camping gear you can use or if you can use a camper or drive in an RV. All offer different services. Considering it's a State Park you know you will have facilities that you can use.
PICNICING
You can also go for a picnic. They do have picnic areas and if you wish to cook, they also have them with barbecue pits. If your idea of a picnic is to be near the water area or just throw a blanket on the green pasture, bring you basket with you. Check with their office. There can be restrictions due to animals. Definitely don’t feed any, no matter how cute or cuddly they are.
SKIING
If you live in the northern region of the States, you get another advantage that others in the south don’t, you get to go skiing. Many offer skiing and they have lifts in their areas. Some even have cabins that you can rent. Just check in your area and see what they offer you.
These are just only a few of the recreational activities they have. You can also play basketball, go fishing, volleyball, etc. So much to do in so little time but not to worry you can come back. It’s not as expensive as going to an amusement park. Nowadays, for a family, it can be even cheaper than a day at the movies.
The good thing about visiting the parks is you don't have to do exercise, just have fun. During the summers enjoy a good book while sitting next to the lake and while getting some sun. During the winters go skiing or sledding. Whatever it is you like to do, you can find it there. One thing is for sure; you will all have a great time and will definitely go back for more.
