When a man is single and on his own, he can pretty much date anyone he wants without thinking twice. This is what he usually does. But when he is a single dad, it all changes. Just like single moms, they have to be careful who they date. The qualities they look for in the woman are now different.
They will have to change their priorities. Since the child is part of their life, they have to find a person that will get along with their child and love them as much as they do. This is important, one day this child may be part of her life too. This is not an easy task.
Just like men, many women don’t want to date single parents. They don’t want the responsibility of someone else’s child. Usually, most of the women they date will have children of their own. Most likely, during a first date, he will not tell her that he has a child. He wants to get to know her first. However, they may ask questions pertaining to children just to hear their response. What she answers will influence greatly on his decision if there will be a second date.
Usually a single man will look for a woman that wants to have fun and is not concerned with a truly serious relationship. Unlike women, men are not looking for marriage, just a good time. When they become a single dad, now they look for a woman with a more serious attitude towards relationships. They don’t change all their priorities but they will put their concerns about their child first.
An important quality will be patience. Children can be difficult at times and it’s normal. They can get fussy, cranky, moody or excited. When they decide to play or talk, they want your full attention. If the man sees that she frowns, gets upset or frustrated with their child, it’s over. This is not something that is going to change, a child is a child and they can’t be punished for being a child.
They also want a woman that is fun and can be childlike. Nothing makes a man happier than seeing her enjoy her time with his child. When she is fun and is childlike, it makes the child comfortable and a special bond is made. This will make any outing with her and the child a blast. When he sees that she is affectionate with the child (sincerely) and caring, it will fill him with hope and love towards this woman. He can see himself in a family environment. He knows his child will be happy with her and not only that, when they have a child of their own, he knows what to expect.
She has to be ready for any last minute changes, she has to be understanding. If he has to cancel plans all of a sudden due to an emergency with his child, he expects her to understand and not be upset. He also hopes that if she is not too busy, she will come over and help him. He won’t ask he will see if she offers her help. It shows she is willing to help at a drop of a pin and is dependable.
When he sees that her motherly instincts kick in and they are sincere, he knows he has found the right person to be with. They know there are woman that will love and nurture a child, even if it’s not their biological child. Now, he won’t fall for it too quickly. They know that some women are not sincere and he will be waiting for that one sign that will tell him so.
A man may want to have a companion but he will put his child first and this is something done by all single parents. The reason is that one day they can become a family. Not only should the woman he meet enjoy being with his child but be able to at least talk to the ex-wife. It’s not impossible, it happens, more than many think. They will have to work together and support each other when it comes to the child. It is important that they have a happy and healthy childhood.
