We have all seen them in books, emails or programs, the Seven Wonders of the Worlds. It’s amazing what we see and it leaves us with a desire to go, see all of these in person.
They are truly magnificent and unique. Now it’s not just the images that are incredible but also the history that comes with them.
They are seven different countries, which they themselves are exotic. They are Brazil, China, Peru, Mexico, Italy, India and Jordan.
They are spread throughout the world, making the idea of traveling even more enticing. When you travel to these magnificent destinations, you will get to learn the history behind them, the stories, the people, the culture and how they were built, created. It’s one thing to see them in pictures; it is another to actually be there in person. Each of them offers you a view that will remain with you forever.
Have you ever said I want to travel somewhere new, exciting and exoctic? Well if you visit one of these Wonders, that could be that one trip you are dream of all the time. The one trip you will alwys remember and talk about forever.
These locations were chosen by millions of people as the best ever. These are man-made structures that have survived time for all of us to enjoy. It’s amazing to know that these structures were made without the tools we have today.
GREAT WALL OF CHINA
This was built between the 5th century and the 16th century. It’s the longest man man-made structure which measures over 4,000 miles long. It was built to protect China from the Mongols or any other threat to China. It took over 1,000,000 people to build this incredible structure. It is said that many of the workers are buried under this wall. Along the wall, they also built 25,000 towers.
TAJ MAHAL INDIA
This mausoleum was built by Muslim Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to honor the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It took 15 years to build and it was completed in 1647. It is said that when the Taj Mahal was completed, he was deposed by one of his sons and placed under house arrest. They say he spent the rest of his days gazing at the Taj Mahal from a window. It is considered one of the finest architectural structures from that era.
MACHU PICCHU PERU
Built in the mid 1400’s, this mountain settlement located between 2 towering Andean Peaks, is thought to be a sacred center for the nearby Incans in Cusco. It’s believe that Machu Picchu was abandoned somewhere in the 15th century after they were invaded by the Spanish forces. The reason for the abandonment is an outbreak of a deadly disease, the small pox, which was introduced when the Spanish forces invaded their lands. This city was found again in 1911.
CHICHEN IZTA MEXICO
It is possibly the most famous temple city of the Mayan culture. It was a political and religious center for the Mayan civilization, during the periods of 750 AD to 1200 AD. It was a powerful city. A trading center for cloth, honey, salt and slaves. The pyramid represents the 365 days of the year. There are four sides to the pyramid. Each side has 91 steps and the platform represents the 365th day of the year.
THE COLOSSEUM ITALY
This Colosseum at one time held up to 50,000 spectators. In this Colosseum the spectators came to watch the cruel games involving the gladiators, wild animals and prisoners. The structure was built in 70 A.D. and completed in 80 A.D. The Colosseum is in a state of ruin but portions of it remain open for tourists.
PETRA JORDAN
Petra was the capital of Nabataen kingdom of King Aretas IV from 9 B.C. to 40 A.D. Within the ancient city, there are tunnels, water chambers and an amphitheater that could hold up to 4000 people. Petra is famous for its stone structures.
CHRIST THE REDEEMER BRAZIL
One of the newest Seven Wonders, Christ the Redeemer, which was built in 1884, stands on the Corcovado Mountain. The statue is 130 feet tall and created out of reinforced concrete and soapstone. It is recognized as the icon of Rio de Janeiro.
These are the Seven Wonders of the World but there are others that can be easily added to this list. There is the Pyramids of Giza, the Lighthouse of Alexandra, the Eiffel Tower and Easter Island.
