We all have a computer or laptop and we are very dependant of them. We keep a lot of personal information in the computer, should it crash we would be lost.
That is why it is important that we protect them as much as possible. Every time we go online we are at risk because today there are constant attacks of our computer’s security system.
As the years have passed, the attacks are even more malicious than before.
They are trying to enter into your computer to steal personal information, such as credit card numbers, social security numbers or bank account numbers. They can find your address, phone number, details of your daily life. All this information they can use it to either steal your money or purchase items with your financial information. They can also sell your identity.
The reason why they do this is because it’s easier for them to obtain this information by hacking into your computer than mugging you. This happens because our computers are not completely secure, we don’t take the time to update programs or add additional security to our computers. If we are going to keep this type of information in our PC’s then it’s critical that we protect ourselves with the proper tools. Basically we must build an arsenal to prevent intruders.
WIRELESS SECURITY
Top of the list, make sure that your wireless device is encrypted and password protected. Contact your network provider and make sure that only authorized user can access the network. Remember, if your network is not protected a hacker can easily get in and access all information, download credit card numbers, essentially creating havoc.
ANTI-VIRUS
Don’t ever think your system won’t be attacked by a virus because it will be. What you should do is add an ant-virus program that will prevent viruses from entering the system. To ensure the ultimate protection, make sure it includes anti-phishing.
Many hackers will send you emails that look authentic, such as a communication from your bank. It is done this way so that you click on the link and provide them with the information they need. Once you do that, they can take everything within a few minutes.
EDUCATE
It’s important that you educate yourself on the latest scams, prevent yourself from ever falling into a trap. If you get an email from your bank, Credit Card Company, investment firm, etc don’t reply or click on it. No matter how urgent it looks don’t click any links.
Instead pick up the phone and call them. This way you have just saved yourself from a big scare. You should never give user names, passwords or account information to anyone.
FIREWALLS
This is one of your first lines of defense. You should make sure that the firewall programs is installed and configured correctly into your pc. Also, add a hardware firewall to the outer layer of your system at the entry point of the internet. This will ensure that only authorized information leave your system.
