Surprises to Expect During First Pregnancy

When a woman is having a baby it’s a beautiful feeling.  Those around her tell her she is glowing, looks great and tell her that the pregnancy becomes her.

It’s such a blessing to have a child and as a mother, she can’t wait to the baby in her arms.

Before a woman becomes pregnant for the first time, she can only fantasize of how it will be.  They may be a little scared but since there are so many books they can read and they can find all sorts of information on the internet that they feel they will be prepared.

Every time they see someone with a baby in their arms, it tugs at the strings of their heart and their desire increases.  When given the opportunity to hold a baby in their arms, they are filled with a need, a desire to have their own child.  During this time, they can see themselves pregnant, decorating the nursery, feeling the baby kick, the clothes for the baby, the sonograms and eventually giving birth.  By the way, that is the only thing they worry about is the birth itself.  After a while, she decides it’s time and becomes pregnant.  Right then and there she realizes it’s not what she thought and those books were right but really didn’t tell it exactly like it is.

During the pregnancy she will go through a lot of changes.  First let’s start with morning sickness, actually any time sickness.  It can happen in the morning, afternoon, night.  Some women are like this all day long.  They become best friends with the toilet and the part that gets them, its worst then a hangover.  At least then, they would feel better within a few hours, this takes a few weeks.  Anything will trigger it and there are times the doctors have to give them medicine to stop the nausea.  The bright side to this is that it will go away and then they start eating as though they have a bottomless pit.  They will have cravings that will scare the heck out of anyone near them.   You will see them eat pickles and peanut butter.  Some will add hot sauce to everything they can, a sandwich, fries, hamburger, chicken, rice, etc.  Then there are those midnight cravings where they just have to have something to eat.  You would think a bowl of fruit, no way, fried chicken, cake, donuts, etc.  After a while, they start to scare people, they are fearful for their life so they make sure there is always plenty of food in the house.  Have you ever seen a woman eat 4 dozen peanut butter cookies with a half gallon of milk?  It’s not a pretty sight at all.

Then there are the bodily functions that no one wants to talk about.  There is the constipation problem, where they go for days without going to the bathroom and when it finally happens, its pure pain and tears.  Then there is the urinating every 5 seconds or that is what it seems like.  But that is not at all the worst part, how about the gas?  That can be so embarrassing.  When it starts to build up, there is no controlling it.  One thing all women should carry, just in case, is a little bottle of scented perfume, not too strong, just enough to cover the order.  This is in case she lets one go which will happen.  Now, one thing we should not forget is the hormones.  Yes, they will go up and down.  One moment she will feel sad, then the next happy as can be but the one that scares all is when they start snapping at you.  As soon as they feel hot, hungry and tired, they become cranky and it’s not fun.  They can’t help it; their body is going through so much.  By their seventh month they are ready to give birth, they want to have that baby right then and there.  See by now they can’t find a comfortable position to sleep in so that of course makes them even moodier.

By the time they are ready to give birth, they have gained over 25 lbs, eaten everything possible.  They have suffered from indigestion and severe heartburn.  Their mood swings have been awful, so bad they scared themselves.  They can’t sit too long, stand too long and can’t see their feet.  They are probably still suffering from constipation and can’t stop peeing.  As the time get’s closer and closer, they gain more weight and its water.  They swell up like balloons.  Their hands and feet look pudgy and it scares them because it just doesn’t look right plus it’s painful.  Finally labor kicks in.  Now hopefully it won’t be too long but be prepared there are times a woman can be in labor for more than a day.  The pain is awful, there is no other way to say that, it’s excruciating.

Probably by now, if you have never had a child, you may have decided to abandon your desire to having a child.  Don’t do that, this isn’t to scare you, it’s just to let you know what to truly and honestly expect.  It’s not always horrible, during this time you do get attention you probably never got before.  You feel excited getting the nursery ready.  There are those great baby showers from friends, family and co-workers.  Then there is the best part of it all.  Even though you may feel and look like hell, at the end of it, you meet your new baby.  At that point, nothing matters; just having that baby in your arms makes it worthwhile.  But one thing is for sure, you will wait before going through that again.  Now you really know the truth.
