Flowers are beautiful and whether they are in a bouquet or in the garden, they make you smile and you are tempted to smell them.
They make you feel relaxed, young and full of life. Many believe this is silly but it makes your mind wonder and it even makes you fantasize.
Haven’t you noticed that just by placing flowers throughout your home, it makes it brighter and more welcoming? Well that is not the only thing flowers can do for you.
They also have healing powers and can replace many of the beauty products that are used to reverse aging. This is not something that was just found out, it has always been know. Remember, a lot of our ancestors did not have a doctor to go to, a pharmacy to pick up all they needed or a dermatologist to help with their wrinkles. They used the plants and flowers that right in your own backyard.
Blemishes
Honeysuckle can clear the skin of blemishes. This is due to an alkaloid called berberine. This kills the bacteria behind the breakouts. To use it, fill a jar 2/3 of fresh Honeysuckle flowers, cover it with vodka and let it steep for a week. Strain the liquid and whenever you have a pimple, dab the liquid onto it with a cottonball.
Rashes
If you have an itchy rash, Violets can be used to calm the inflammation that causes itching. What you do is crush ½ cup of fresh Violets and leaves, add to warm bathwater and soak in it for 20 minutes.
Age Spots
Nothing bugs you more than those age spots. They make you feel a bit uncomfortable. Well Dandelions can do the trick; they can lighten the age spots. Scientist says it is due to the sap, it contains natural latex that erases discoloration. Slice open the stem and massage the milky white substance gently onto the age spots, make sure it’s a pesticide free plant.
Sunburn
We all love the beach and our goal is to get a nice tan. But we are having so much fun we get too much sun and now you are sunburned. Well Marigolds can calm the sunburn. It has anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Be ready, get a glass jar and place a fistful of Marigolds in it, fill it with virgin olive oil and let it sit for two weeks. Once the two weeks have gone by, strain it. Should you or anyone get sunburned, just dab the oil onto the skin twice a day for relief.
Scrapes
For those scrapes, use Queen Anne’s lace. The salves from these tiny flowers are packed with astringent that kills bacteria on contact. To use it, add a handful of flowers to a quart of hot water. Once cooled, strain it and use the liquid as a topical rinse.
Dandruff
Lavender smells wonderful and helps you relax. They can also help cure stubborn dandruff, eliminating the use of heavy chemical and smelly dandruff shampoos that dry out your hair. It stops itching, flaking and leaves a relaxing scent. Steep the flowers in hot water let it cool and then use it as a finishing rinse after you shampoo. Continue using it until the dandruff is all gone.
