Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Are you trying for a baby or are you pregnant?  Whether you are trying or expecting, your health is very important.  What you eat, drink or do affects your body and if pregnant, it affects the baby too.

First thing you should do if you are trying for a baby is to stop certain habits.  For instance, stop smoking and drinking alcohol.

Get your body ready, exercise, eat right and rest. For those trying to have a baby, the frustration of not getting pregnant takes a toll on your body.

Physicians will tell you that if your mind can be your worst enemy.  While trying to conceive, instead of thinking about it day in and day out, concern yourself with your health.  Keep your mind occupied and your body in shape.  It’s true, it’s not as easy as it sounds but it does work.  Getting pregnant for the first time can take up to a year so don’t lose hope.  When visiting any physician or getting any test, if they ask are you pregnant say yes.  Some of the test or chemicals they give you can be harmful.

As soon as you decide you are ready to have a baby, visit your physician.  The purpose of this visit is to get a clear picture of your health.  This is to ensure you will have a healthy pregnancy.  Also, if you suffer from an illness, such as high blood pressure, thyroid problems, asthma, allergies, etc then they know how to regulate them during your pregnancy.  This is also the opportunity to let them know what types of medicines you are taking, especially since you will most likely have to take them during your pregnancy.

One thing your physician will tell you is that you need to start taking prenatal vitamins and you have to make sure to start taking folic acid.  A good thing to always do is read books relating to pregnancies and what to expect.  Reading will ease your mind and help you understand the changes your body goes through while pregnant.  Also, it helps you prepare for the birth of your child.

If you have found out your pregnant, it’s not too late to get on the right track.  Immediately visit your physician and let them know what you have taken during your pregnancy.  If you are drinking or smoking, quickly stop.  While you are pregnant you should not take any over the counter medicines without consulting your physician.

During your pregnancy you may experience things such as nausea, heartburn and constipation.  When this happens, make sure to drink non-medicinal remedies.  If it’s severe, then visit your physician.  Always drink lots of water and avoid caffeine as much as possible.  Because you are pregnant, it does not mean you have to stop exercising, you can go for daily walks.  Of course, if you are truly concern that it may harm you more than help you, speak with your physician.  They will run test and do a physical, they can tell you if you can or can’t do exercises.

When you find out you’re pregnant the news is incredible, you want to scream it out loud for everyone to know.  You should announce your pregnancy when you are ready.   Take advantage of the classes offered such as first time parents, childbirth classes, breastfeeding, etc.  The more you learn will make it a little easier when the baby finally comes.

Don’t forget to start making plans as soon as you decide you are pregnant or you found out you are.  You should start writing down what you need to change at home, consider what room will be the nursery, what you will need and most of all start saving money.   Ask those closest to you, what they experienced during their pregnancy.  What did they do to prepare themselves, etc.  They will give you advice which is always good; you can decide which is best for you.  Most of all, rest as much as you can before and during your pregnancy.  You will thank yourself for doing all this, the moment they place that beautiful baby in your arms.
