Ways to Save Money for Your Vacation

You have planned your vacation.  Whether it’s for a couple or the family, you are definitely looking forward to it and it’s only a few months away. You have your airline tickets and hotel reservation or you probably purchase a vacation package. You know exactly what you will be taking with you on the trip, you made arrangements for your pet, who will house sit, etc.

However, you realize you are missing one thing, money.  You need to save money for your vacation.  The problem is that you don’t have much time because your vacation is just a few months away.

Too bad we don’t live in a perfect world where everything goes just right and our vacations are always fully funded. Nope, we have to make ends meet to work this out. What worries us the most is time, before you know it, it’s time for the vacation and we don’t have enough money.

Well here are a few tips on how to save that extra cash and in record time for your vacation.

SACRIFICE

For a few months, sacrifice a little by cutting down or cutting out those little extras you have during the month.  If you have cable, cut out the movie channels, cut back on special classes, dance lessons, movie night, rentals, etc.  Take that extra money and put it in a savings account.  Remember, it’s for a good cause; you will have fun during your vacation.

EAT IN

Another good way to save some money is to eat in.  It is said that an average family will spend over $200 on restaurant meals and fast food.  By eating in, you can save over $600 for your family vacation. Make fun meals at home and if you don’t feel like cooking every night, then purchase deli items and make sandwiches.  It’s worth the sacrifice.

PLAN

Sit down and make a plan, see how much you believe you will be spending on gas, tips, souvenirs, meals and admissions into theme parks.  This will give you an idea of how much extra cash you will need on your vacation.  It’s good to avoid unpleasant surprises.

GARAGE SALE

You probably have been planning to do a garage sale but never got to it.  Well this is your opportunity to finally get this done.  This is a perfect way to get a little extra money.  Get every one in the family involved, post notices, an ad in the newspaper and have the kids write up signs in crayons, making it fun for them.

SHOPPING

Cut back on your shopping sprees.  Try to avoid making any unnecessary purchases both in retail and grocery stores.  Purchase only what is needed.  Remember, save now so that you can have money to purchase what you want during your vacation.
