About 25 million adults suffer from heartburn and experience server reflux daily and more than 60 million will suffer from this once a month. Heartburn is caused by certain foods we eat such as fried foods, alcohol, coffee, fatty foods or peppermint. It can also be caused after you eat a large meal or stress.
There are actually many other reasons why this can occur. Heartburn is a digestive problem and it occurs when the acid comes into contact with the lining in your esophagus. This causes irritation and elevates the acid that goes up your esophagus.
Many feel as though their chest is on fire and at times can taste the acid in their mouth. Now for those that suffer from heartburn once a month, will find it bothersome, a nuisance but the condition is nothing to worry too much about. For those that suffer from it constantly will have to make sure to get treated. When it’s left untreated it can lead to more serious problems, it can damage the esophagus and also lead to ulcers.
One thing that many don’t realize is that if it’s too severe and it is left untreated, it can lead to cancer of the esophagus. There are ways to prevent it or at least calm it down when it does come back.
PILLOWS
At night, when we go to sleep, we sleep on a pile of pillows. This causes heartburn because we are bent at the wait. Your better of raising the head of your bed by 4 inches, this can help prevent heartburn.
GUM
Chew a piece of sugarless chewing gum right after a meal. This will help flush the stomach acid down into the stomach where it belongs. The ingredients in the gum help neutralize the excess digestive juices.
FIBER
More fiber in your diet can produce acid neutralizing foam which shuts down heartburn, causing fewer flare-ups.
BELT
When you sit down to eat, make sure you are not wearing anything tight around the stomach or waist area. Anything tight will put pressure on your stomach and that will push the acid into your esophagus.
MEDS
Once you know you are suffering from heartburn, you should see your doctor. They can prescribe medicines that can help control the flare-ups.
CIDER
Drink 1 Tbsp. of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar mix with an 8 oz glass of water before any meals. This will soothe the heartburn as quickly as 24 hours.
