It’s important to keep your teeth clean and healthy. That is why we should visit the dentist twice a year for a cleaning. They always tell us to brush our teeth and floss after every meal.
Many don’t really take the time to do this, it’s so simple and don’t understand the importance of oral hygiene.
Just think of this, how many times have you passed by a stranger and they have smiled at you? Did you notice how contagious a smile is?
You can’t help but to smile right back at them. We seem to forget that saying, “a smile is worth a thousand words”. This is very true; a smile can warm a heart, break the ice, open doors for you and give you the opportunity you have been looking for. However, if you don’t take care of your teeth and gum, your smile will eventually disappear. Practicing oral hygiene will prevent tooth decay, gum disease and help you keep your teeth for as long as possible.
But dental problems are not always just about oral hygiene, there are also other reasons for this problem. Your mouth may be trying to tell you of some future health complications. What happens in your mouth can affect your health.
TONGUE
Changes in the color of your tongue could mean different things. Brightly colored, white or black is simply due to tobacco use or some kind of foods. Change in shape or color could be a vitamin deficiency. Some changes in the tongue could be due to allergies and in some cases oral cancer.
SPOTS
If you see black, brown, gray or white spots, it could be a sign of tooth decay. Black, pink or gray colored spots could be a result of bleeding inside the tooth.
BAD BREATH
Your bad breath could be due to something you ate, garlic, onions or you didn’t drink enough fluids. At times it could be that you didn’t brush well enough. However, bad breath can also be a sign of stomach problems, lung problems, sinus infection, diabetes, HIV or liver disease.
ACHES/SENSITIVITY
If you tend to drink very hot or very cold drinks, you will cause your teeth to crack at times and this can make them very sensitive to the point that it can ache. You can also have a cavity which, if not taken care of, you might need a root canal. Those that suffer from sinuses know very well they can get a very bad tooth ache because of the pressure. Another problem is the deficiency of vitamin B-12.
CLEANING
We all know that we need to visit the dentist twice a year to get our teeth clean. This will prevent us from losing our teeth. But did you know that it can also prevent you from having hearth problems? If you don’t brush your teeth, avoid dental health care altogether, can turn frequent bacterium to heart valve infection.
SORES
If you have a canker or cold sore, you think you might have a cold. Well it could simply be that you need more folic acid, iron and/or vitamin B-12. It can also be due to allergies, viral infections and hormonal changes.
